Clown master class directed by Nouveau Clown Institute, Centre Civic Drassanes and Circ Cric in association with Tortell Poltrona and Jango Edwards
Following the overwhelming success of Slava Polunin's Academy of Fools, Jango Edwards and the Nouveau Clown Institute's 2017 Garden of Fools clown master class, we present The Earth of Fools clown master class.
Classes will be in English, French, Spanish, and Russian with translations.
At the end of each week on the Saturday evenings, there will be performances presented by the actors in training, faculty, and invited guest artists (Cabaret Cabron). These performances will be open to the general public.
Those of you who have clown or comedy routines, stage acts or numbers that you would like to perform in the weekly Cabaret Cabron productions, please bring those items required to present your act including music, props, and costumes. A maximum of no more than three acts from your repertory is advised. We also recommend that you bring any audio/ video material of your work that can be viewed by members of the faculty to assist us in directing you.
In addition to your in-class sessions, you will receive selected data based materials. It is mandatory that you bring with you a pen drive or memory stick in which this data can be stored. This information will be a useful reference in the future once you have successfully completed the master class and graduated from The Nouveau Clown Institute—that is if you graduate!
The one-month session is conducted by a team of international master instructors and additional specialized tutors from our permanent NCI faculty. Every class is completely unique in content, instruction, and information.
Confirmed master instructors: Tortell Poltrona, Virgina Imaz, Eric de Bont, Guillem Alba, Jango Edwards, Claudia Cantone, Knut Ostradal, Mellisa Caminha, Alicia Martel, and Tony Murchland. Additional instructors will be announced in the future.
About NCI and Circ Cric
The master class is for professional clown artists to learn, teach, and exchange creative ideas with each other, a school where new actors have the opportunity for direct contact with master instructors and daily exposure to assorted technique and production skills, and an understanding of the comic formulas that make comedy and clowning function in all environments.
This event is created for all members of the nouveau clown community and functions as a launching pad for actors to become familiar with the variety of clown artists and schools that specializes in comedy and the art of clown.
Finally and most importantly, NCI and Circ Cric staff wishes to make your visit as creative, productive, and inspiring as possible. To achieve this we remind you that this is an educational institution of the highest standards and if you come with open mind and open heart then we will open the door for you to a new future.
Classes will be held Monday to Friday, 9am–7pm (160 hours of class time training). There will be an additional 30 hours of research time, which includes special viewing assignments of films and videos. In addition each actor in training can request a one-on-one private session with a master teacher.

The fee for one month of master class will be: 2,400 €. There is a non-refundable deposit of 800 euros required in advance to reserve your place. The remaining 1,600 euros to be paid in cash the day of your arrival.
Accommodation and meals are only included July 23–30 when the artists will be in residency at Circ Cric. Without obligation NCI will assist and advise applicants who need it to acquire accommodation in Barcelona.
