"The little trick of getting three objects to dance around in your hands has always managed to keep a small sense of magic...It's one form of insanity we feel everyone has a right to experience."

  Flying Karamazov Brothers
Posted June 29, 2010

UPDATE: 08/17/10 The boys have dropped the show name, changed the art, and changed the promo text, but it's the same show—and it's getting great reviews.

New description:
The Flying Karamazov Brothers is:

Theater. But funnier.
Music. But funnier.
Dance. But funnier.
Juggling. But funnier.
Comedy. But funnier.

A unique blend of music, comedy, dance, theater, and juggling that is sure to dazzle young and old alike! The Flying Karamazov Brothers, New York's favorite lunatics, are at the apex of their ambidextrous and alliterative ability. Their show is a combination of humor, both physical and verbal, ranging from high brow to low brow to mono brow. Come watch the Flying K's as they prove with each performance that chaos and unexpected events in our lives are the best part of being human.

UPDATE: 08/03/10 A few places to check for deals: see eventbrite.com and/or goldstar.com for limited comps (going fast!) to select shows.

Note: Since their last NYC run was so well received (see here), the FKB return for an open run. Posted as gleaned.

CircusNYC The Flying Karamazov Brothers are headed back to off-Broadway's Minetta Lane Theatre for an open-ended engagement of 4Play. The show, which received excellent reviews during a February run at the Minetta Lane, will begin previews on July 22 and open on August 9. [Note from CircusNYC.com: some sources say August 8; tickets are on sale for both dates.]

A unique blend of music, comedy, dance, theater, and juggling, 4Play features the Flying Karamazov Brothers (Mark Ettinger, Rod Kimball, Stephen Bent, and writer/director Paul Magid), a troupe of new vaudevillians who juggle till they drop. The audience is invited to bring objects to the theater for the Karamazovs to keep airborne in a gamble that ends either with a pie in the face or a standing ovation, making each show a unique experience and sometimes a messy one. The objects, musical instruments (traditional and invented), and their own bodies combine to make a fresh and compelling evening.

4Play is choreographed by Doug Elkins, with music direction by Mark Ettinger, costumes by Susan Hilferty, lighting design by David Hutson, set design by the Flying Karamazov Brothers, and original music by Mark Ettinger, Doug Wieselman, and Howard Patterson.
