"The little trick of getting three objects to dance around in your hands has always managed to keep a small sense of magic...It's one form of insanity we feel everyone has a right to experience."

Fire Fan and Poi Classes Sep 9-Nov 19
Posted September 4, 2013
Fans & Poi with Claire De Luxe
Fall sessions start mid September!

Poi 2
Foundations and basics! We continue to establish our poi vocabulary, focusing on reels, stalls, and transitions to link everything into a coherent whole.

Poi 4
We begin to look at flowers, pendulums, more stalls, and sequences that create new patterns.

Poi 6
We will continue to vary our flowers and add variations, play with pendulums and short choreography, as well as isolations, under the leg moves, and basic body tracing.

Intermediate Poi
More fun tricks, concepts, and combos for this open-level class. Appropriate for intermediate spinners who pick up new moves with relative ease.

Open-Level Fire Fan Choreography
We will learn sequences that blend fire fan tech with body movement and dance, taking time to learn particular fan moves when needed. Variations will be given to allow for different skill levels.

Looking forward to spinning with you!

"Claire is one of the best teachers I have had the pleasure to study with. Her instructions are clear and her easygoing manner makes even the most complicated moves feel very accessible. After two years of poi classes I am still impressed with the absolute presence and focus Claire maintains with each and every student. Poi has been an exploration in movement and balance and has helped me find fluidity and grace. I am continuously fascinated with how the work of trying to coordinate movements of the body also affects my brain and clarity of thought. I feel that my weekly poi sessions have actually helped me with my studies at school as well as provide a bit of meditation like therapy for my mind. I am committed to my poi classes, and maybe even a little addicted."
–Tania Turcinovic, nursing student

"I’ve been taking Claire’s poi classes for the past 3 years. I started as a beginner and am now an accomplished spinner! Claire is a wonderful teacher. She is able to break down the moves in a concise and understandable way while being patient and supportive. She gets just as excited as her students when we master a move! She encourages us to tap into our creativity while acquiring technique. The class is casual and diverse and everyone is inspired to work hard. As an older former dancer, spinning poi allows me to be creative with movement & gets my motor skills and coordination tuned with the same discipline of dance. It takes a lot of commitment and practice to master. And it’s fun!"
–Faye Honor, VP Design, Image Terrain & certified Pilates instructor

"I’d love to give Claire all the stars in the universe on a scale of 1-10. I always leave class feeling physically vibrant & excited to work on stuff during the week. Claire is a super chill teacher who makes everything seem achievable. I can’t wait for the next session to start because this is an art I really want to learn more about, and improve. I feel Poi is one of those things that once you stop over-analyzing it and just do it, you fall into that good head space of meditation that happens when you do any art, and I love going to those head spaces."
–Kim Fraczek, glass artist
